High carbon knives are different than stainless steel high carbon. This just means that these custom knives are more susceptible to rust if not cared for properly.
- Keep blade dry as much as possible.
- Wash in warm soapy water. (Do NOT soak)
- Do NOT put in the dishwasher.
- Store in Dry Place.
How do I take care for a High Carbon knife?
What if I get rust on my blade?
No need to worry. Just wash the blade with a Scotch Brite pad. You
can also rub the blade down with vinegar to force a patina. This
will put a protective shield around the blade.
What is a Patina and is it good for my knife?
Patina is the discoloration of the metal. It creates a dull/darker
nuance. This is not a bad thing. A layer of patina will actually protect
your blade. And depending on the foods you are cutting, it will take
on different colors, which is pretty cool looking and unique. FYI. Rust
and patina are two different things. We do not want rust.
